In fitness, there’s a general rule that the more muscles you work, the more intense the workout will be. If you’re working your full body, then you’ll likely burn more calories and improve your fitness – compared to if you just worked one muscle group at a time.
I find that many people don’t know how to get in an excellent full-body workout, so they never even try! Well, here are some of the best ways you can train your whole body at the same time:
I would say this is one of the most underrated sports with regards to the physical challenge it poses. When you play tennis, you’re running around a lot – so your legs take a beating, and you get the cardio challenge – but you’re also swinging a racket constantly. As a result, your arms and shoulders get really burnt out as well. The overall effect is a full-body workout that lasts for hours on end. Plus, you kind of get some interval training as well because you play a point with intensity, rest for a few seconds, play again, and repeat. As far as sports go, it’s right up there as one of the best full-body workouts you can get.
This is definitely an unconventional one as hardly anyone considers rock climbing as a way to improve your fitness. But, it makes you work so many muscles all in one go – and it’s pretty fun as well. You’ll work your arms and back as you try and scale the wall, while your abs and legs have to work hard to keep you stable as well. If you are going to give this a go, then make sure you have all the right equipment handy. Things like the La Sportiva rock climbing shoes are designed to help your feet grip the wall, and you need gloves to protect your hands as well. Also, make sure you start off in a safe climbing centre where you’re strapped into a harness – don’t go climbing some random mountain nearby!
CrossFit is a type of fitness training that looks to blend so many different ideas under one heading. There’s a firm emphasis on cardio/circuit training, weightlifting, gymnastics, running, and much more. One of the main aspects of CrossFit is something called a WOD – which stands for workout of the day. Here, you basically have to complete a challenge, and it’s usually a full body routine that combines weights, a rowing machine/bike, burpees, and pretty much anything. Doing one of these will target almost every muscle in your body, giving you a burn like no other.
For me, if you’re keen to supercharge your fitness goals for 2019 and beyond, then start incorporating some full-body workouts into your life. They help give your entire body a massive boost, and you’ll improve your fitness dramatically. One thing I will say is to ensure you recover properly between workouts. It’s not good to do a full-body workout every day as you’ll just overtrain and hurt yourself! If you do one of these, then leave a day between full-body routines!
